Regret results compare a decision outcome with what might have been.

The analyst is to assist the decision-maker in his/her decision-making process.

Therefore, risk must also be used in decision analysis process.

This integrated process is shown in the following figure: The decision-maker uses forecasting models to assist him or her in decision-making process.

Break-even analysis is decision-making tool.

The decision-making often uses the modeling process to investigate the impact of different courses of action ; that is, "as if" the decision has already been made under a course of action.

This Web site describes the basic elements in the analysis of decision alternatives and choice, as well as the goals and objectives that guide decision making.

Decision Making Models overview

Companion Sites:Rules of thumb, intuition, tradition, and simple financial analysis are often no longer sufficient for addressing such common decisions as make-versus-buy, facility site selection, and process redesign.

A quick review of Decision Making Models so you know whats available

Although the conceptual structure and nature of PESTEL (Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, Technological,
Environment and Legal) analysis requires an integrated approach to analysis, the technical framework of
PESTEL does not adequately support such an approach. PESTEL analysis, as it stands, mainly provides a
general idea about the macro environmental conditions and situation of a company. This study presents a model
to address problems encountered in the measurement and evaluation process of PESTEL analysis. The integrated
structure of PESTEL factors and sub-factors were modeled by AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and ANP
(Analytic Network Process) techniques. Relationships between PESTEL factors were determined by DEMATEL
(Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory). Global weights of the sub-factors were calculated using
ANP. The PESTEL analysis model proposed in the study could determine the extent to which the macro
environment of a company provides suitable conditions to achieve the aims of the company.

Effective Modeling for Good Decision-Making What is a model

Decision analysts provide quantitative support for the decision-makers in all areas including engineers, analysts in planning offices and public agencies, project management consultants, manufacturing process planners, financial and economic analysts, experts supporting medical/technological diagnosis, and so on and on.

Models of Decision Making: Rational, Administrative …

Specialists in model building are often tempted to study a problem, and then go off in isolation to develop an elaborate mathematical model for use by the manager (i.e., the decision-maker).
